Each of the three Tracy penstocks has been outfitted with a four-path Accusonics 7510+ transit time flow meter.   The stated accuracy is ±0.5% and the repeatability is ±2.0%. Velocity (cubic feet per second) and total flow (acre-feet) information is transferred to a Chessell 6180A Paperless Graphic recorder and also to the facility SCADA system via Modbus.
All three flow meters are situated adjacent to a set of access manhole approximately 650 feet downstream of the pumps. The transmitter/sensor elements are mounted inside the penstocks. The sensor cables pass through the penstock wall into a vault containing the manhole and terminate at an above ground panel board located between the west and middle vaults.
The sensor locations  were determined by an Accusonics factory representative and the cable protection was installed per Accusonic’s specifications and installation drawings.
Two flow meter panels handle the three penstocks with the west tube displayed on one and the center and east  tubes displaying on the second panel. All equipment is supplied by a UPS power supply/conditioner.
A galvanized steel shade structure was built to protect the panels from direct sun and also from the view of passing traffic on Kelso Road.
All of the labor to install this operation was provided by the Water Authority's Engineering department, Canal Maintenance Tracy, Electric Shop, and the Machine Shop Tracy.
